Is Oprah trying to start her own cult?

So I know this has absolutely nothing to do with paper crafting but I just had to share this article that I came across on Foxnews.com this morning. I give props to Roger Friedman for writing this article.

"Oprah Winfrey may have gone too far in exploiting and distributing the teachings of a questionable New Age writer." (click here to see the full article)

Hello for the First Time

Well, I've been putting my first blog comment off for a couple of months now.  I'll chalk it up to my age.  So here goes.

My daughter introduced me to scrapbooking a couple of years ago.  She, my daughter-in-law and I would scrap together while our guys watched football.  That hobby quickly turned to an addiction!  I kept running into people who would tell me they would love to preserve their life moments but didn't have the time or creativity to do it themselves.  The light bulb went on and the addiction became a business.

Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined all you can do with scrapbook materials.  We have evolved from just scrapbook pages to creating picture frames, bookmarks, cards, and my two personal favorites - shower and party invitations and journals.

Journaling has reached outstanding popularity.  I noticed at church one Sunday that one of my friends was taking sermon notes in a plain spiral notebook.  Ah-Hah!   I surprised her with a "scripture notes" journal.  She loved it!  I've made journals for Christmas card addresses, new baby doctor visits, and even a babysitter's notebook.  I will post pictures of my journals  later.

I would love to hear ideas for other things made with scrapbook material.  Hope to hear from some of you soon!

Congratulations Cathy!!!

I made this card for a friend who just found out she is pregnant for the first time. She is so very excited and I knew she would love this adorable Bella from Stamping Bella. I used paper from My Minds Eye "Check Her Out" and I stamped the image using Brilliance Graphite Black ink and colored it in with my Copic Markers.

Congrats for Cathy - front

Stamping Bella - Hello

I got my 2nd Stamping Bella order in the mail Friday afternoon and I had a BLAST making cards with my new stamps over the weekend. Check out one of my favorites below. Again, I used my beloved Copic Markers to color the stamped image. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Rhinestone Cowgirl

I made this card last night for the Funky Fairy challenge #13. The theme is *BLING* and I had a blast! I love anything that glitters, shimmers, and shines! I used my very first My Favorite Things stamp collection that came in the mail on Monday. This is part of their Ride 'em Cowgirl collection. I stamped the image using my Brilliance ink pad in Graphite Black and colored the image using my Copic markers then I added Doodlebugs's Sugar Coating Glitter to give my card a little bit of *BLING*. I hope you like it! Let me know what ya think!

Good Intentions

So, I had good intentions when I started this blog a few weeks ago. I planned to write daily and post my work weekly but I have been a TOTAL SLACKER. Actually, I have had A LOT of dental work done in the past few weeks which means I have been taking pain medication which therefore results in me sleeping too much. So anywhoo...my last and sadly :( only post was about the Prismacolor pencils I had been eyeing for weeks and finally purchased. I am very happy I bought them. I love them, they are wonderful, BUT in my online search for tips & techniques for using them I came across something new - alcohol based markers!!!  Yes, I tried to resist them but I couldn't. I had to have them! Luckily, last week Hobby Lobby had all of their art makers 25% percent off so I felt that was the universe telling me I was meant to purchase them (I am kidding by the way, I just have zero self control when it comes to my hobby.) So I bought several COPIC Markers at Hobby Lobby and then used a 40% off coupon from Michaels to buy a set of Prismacolor Markers. I am having fun playing with them and trying to figure them out but the techniques are a little harder to grasp than those with the color pencils. I am keeping my eye out for any tips I can find on using these markers and I PROMISE to post some of the work I have done with them as well as with my pencils these week!

Prismacolor...I can't wait!!!

I finally broke down and bought a set of the Prismacolor Premier Color pencils and I cannot wait to give them a try. I have been scrapbooking since 1998 but only recently delved into the art of stamping. After much online research I think I am ready to give coloring open stamps a try. My Prismacolor pencils and I will be bonding over the weekend and I will be sure to post some pictures of our success very soon! If you have any advice in using these pencils I would love to hear from you.
